About Me

My photo
Well I suppose I am or at least used to be like everybody else, sort of. Used to do the thing that society wants us to, The Rat Race. For years I dreamt about exotic locations after watching the travel channel, thinking that some day I would love to go their or do that. Until the beginning of this year (5 Jan 2010), it was not planned or a new year’s resolution, it just happened. I cancelled all my TV subscriptions and pulled out all cables, literally threw them away. After this I drove down to a local scuba centre and signed up for my first scuba course. Let us fast forward to today, I have quite my job sold my vehicle. What now? TRAVEL BABY, SCUBA TRAVEL!!!

No customers for today …

The day broke and no customers turned up, this is apparently the slow period before the December holiday. So after I showed off my skills as a tailor, and mended some wetsuits we arranged and restructured the weight belts. It seems like we are doing quite a lot around the dive centre and we are, streamlining the entire operation with fresh ideas from around the world is welcomed by the owners.

The owners of International Arab Diving Village Abdel Al-Maitah busy servicing regulators with a smile and his son Obada Al-Maitah looking very tired in the office early in the morning.

In the afternoon my services was required to clean the pool, with the “vacuum” as they call it here, so in the pool I went and started sucking up dirt from the bottom and all around the corners. Oh yes did I mention that the pool is not heated, luckily I am used to the cold water as I did most of my diving  in water temperatures between 7°C and 18°C so the 19°C water was not bad at all. As we were yearning for a dive we got the gear ready and set of for a sunset fun dive at Gorgone 1, just the 3 of us. Please note Pedro's camera is still set on Portugal time.

A big common octopus that stood up straight swam from spot to spot and changing colour with us admiring it.

A big scorpion fish as we started our dive, we often see lots of them in the area but this one was rather large.

It seems like this was a dive for big things, me next to a Hickson's giant seafan.

A moray eel staring at Graham and surely wondering what he would taste like.

The sunset as we exited the water, isn’t that beautiful.

Graham and I after the dive.

Graham and Pedro after the dive,Graham's smile is fake, he was cold and had enough of the camera.

Pedro is working on his public relation’s skills.

There have been 3 shark (Oceanic White Tip) attacks on snorkelers and bathers at Sharm El Sheikh; this is very rare as there have only been 9 reports like that in the world. All water activities seems to have been suspended which would mean no diving as well, Sharm is not far from us so come dive with us.

Tomorrow (Friday’s) is the 1 day weekend in Jordan; this is the case for most workers only the very fortunate get 2 days. This means that we potentially could have much more customers than normal. So I guess it is off too bed early tonight in case we have a busy day tomorrow.
